The History of the Moroccan Football Team

The Atlas Lions represent Morocco in international men's football. This team was created in 1916 and made its first official match against Iraq in October 1957.

Since that time, this great football team has played in 18 African Cup of Nations finals:

• In 1976, the Moroccan team won the trophy;
• In 1980 she finished 3rd in the ranking;
• In 2004, the Morocco team lost in the final.

In the 1986 World Cup, after qualifying for the group stage, the Morocco team qualified for the first round with an impressive performance. Unfortunately, Morocco lost 1-0 to Germany in the first round after a fatal free kick at the end of the game.

Morocco has always been one of the only Arab and North African nations to achieve these performances in tournaments.

Globally, the team has appeared in six FIFA World Cup finals, with their best result being a Round of 16.
